(New Zealand, North Island, Wairarapa, Martinborough)
Enjoyed at Jean Georges restaurant in NYC on New Years Day, 2007. Ruby, almost bright cherry color with light intensity. Cherry, vanilla, truffles, and chocolate on the very forthcoming nose. Also notes of rose petal and jasmin. Raspberry jam on the palate, well balanced fruit, tannin, and acid. Seems as if it can be enjoyed for at least another six years ...
2000 Giacomo Fenocchio Barolo Cannubi, Langhle -- okay, this really isn't to drink until at least 2008, but I couldn't wait! Had to wait hours for it to decant, and even then, can only imagine what it would be like in two or five years.
Intense nose of cherry, violet, and cedar signaling the high acids and tannin that compete against the fruit on the first sip. Delicious with high end bittersweet chocolate.
Chateau Pichon-Longueville Baron ... enjoyed this Bordeaux twice in a week at Restaurant Daniel and Bouley - Inky purple, floral aromas of violet and lavendar. Light tannins, very smooth. Classic cassis and tabacco flavor. Can drink now but should age.
