Who could have imagined this scenario?
Americans are accustomed to seeing French and Italian families sitting down at the table with a bottle of wine.
In the old days, the all-American meal was a hamburger, fries, and a coke.
Now, according to an in-depth International Wine and Spirit Record (IWSR) December 2006 study commissioned by VINEXPO, Jean-Marie Chadronnier, Chairman of VINEXPO, and Robert, Beynat, General Manager of VINEXPO, this will all change.
Among the highlights of the study:
1. Consumption of wine will decrease in France and Italy.
2. Americans will be willing to pay more for wine.
3. China will become one of the top ten importers of wine.
On another note, the gentlemen whet my appetite for attending VINEXPO, which will be held in Bordeaux this year from June 17 - 25, 2007.
Since I'll be in Europe attending another conference, I'm thinking of attending, mostly to meet some smaller, value-oriented, little-known producers.
In April they will be back to present a study on the drinking habits of 21 - 25 year olds - looking forward to it!
