Buying at Auction

Did you read my review of Ursula Hermacinski's new book, The Wine Lover’s Guide to Auctions: The Art and Science of Buying and Selling Wines?

If so, you may want to try out her tactics. I certainly will! On Thursday, May 10, 2007 I'll be at
Restaurant Daniel - one of favorite restaurants - to bid on some of the wines offered by Zachy's. Caution: In Ursula's book she stresses the importance of doing research, reading the catologues, and so forth. Other useful advice is to "set limits" and avoid getting carried away.

I'll report on what it's like and what I succeeded in snapping up, but here's the basic info:

An Evening Sale of Extraordinary Wines. Zachys' second evening auction features 176 lots of the world's finest and rarest wines, with a total value of $2.25 - $3.65 million. From Hermitage La Chapelle Jaboulet 1961 in original wood, directly from the Jaboulet family cellars (Lots 69 & 70) to two full cases of Heitz Wine Cellars Martha's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 1974 in original cardboard (Lots 40 & 41) to incredible super-lots of Domaine de la Romanee Conti wines from 1996, 1999 and 2003 (Lots 17-24 & 85), everything in this sale is a highlight!

An Evening Sale of Extraordinary Wines will take place at 6:00pm on Thursday, May 10 at Restaurant DANIEL in New York. For more information, or to receive a catalog for this monumental auction, please call 914.448.3026 or email auction@zachys.com.
