Wine studies …

... so here is the big news. If you are a rat, you should drink very fine French wine ... but only after age forty. And also, only if you do not need to find an island.

I'll explain, but according to research documented at the University of North Carolina studies were done on rats to determine the long term effects of drinking wine. One rat never, ever had wine. The other rat did, but researchers helped the rat kick the habit.

The newly sober rat, and the rat that never drank, were tossed into a pool of water with an island. Both rats found the island easily.

The researchers tossed the rats into the water again, this time changing the location of the island. The rat that never drank found it easily.

The rat that once had a drinking habit, but turned sober, spent a lot of time circling around the area the island used to be before finally finding it.

I am not sure if this article (which appeared in the NYT) says more about rats, wine, or the excessive time researchers seem to have at the University of North Carolina ... thoughts? Use the comment feature.
