The roughly 11 wines we tasted were fabulous examples of the various Rioja regions and styles, with a spectacular 2001 Montecillo Gran Reserva 2001 capping things off.

Key points of the panel:

1. Rioja wines are value
2. Rioja wines go well with a variety of food
3. Rioja wines represent quality

On the floor, many producers were showcasing their 2007 - 2009 white Viura -- high acidity, a flower-like aroma, nice body. Most of the VIura was 2008/2009 and stainless steel, but a few excellent (and expensive) examples were showcased that had been aged in expensive French oak.
