City Harvest Celebrates: Summer in the City 2010

“Wow, this party is so fun … and the food is so delicious!” said a woman with long dark hair and Sex in the City high-heeled shoes.

Tuesday June 22 was the date for the annual ‘Summer in the City’ Restaurant tasting and cocktail party, which showcased many of my favorite chefs. Many of them knew me, and called out for me to taste their cuisine which was fun and delicious but also reminded me I could not show any favoritism. And while in normal circumstances it would be ridiculous to make a blanket statement that ‘everything’ was delicious, the chefs went to extraordinary lengths to make sure everything looked and tasted incredible. Everything was donated, and I personally think that the reason everything was prepared at such a high level was because the chefs knew they would be compared with other top chefs, and wanted to make a strong impression.

This was my first time at this event and it was a lot of fun, especially for the Young Professional group that supports it. The band, Arlene’s Grocery Rock & Roll Karaoke Band, was one of the many highlights of the evening. They played vintage hits from the Doors and Janis Joplin and people were really rocking out.
All in all, a great event for a great cause and I can’t wait until the main City Harvest event in the fall.
