Can Social Media Save American Wineries?

The WSJ recently published an article titled: Luxury Wine Market Reels from Downturn which Dr. Vino brought to the attention of his wine community. You can see the entire thread on his blog  -- and the comments are quite interesting.

Reading the comments, one gets the sense that Facebook and Twitter (FB/T) are basically great ways to make a connection with potential clients buyers. Many wineries are not using social media effectively, though as a recipient of many Twitter messages, I have to admit that even though many of the comments are rather banal, it does get the name of the sender recognized.

What are your thoughts about social media?
