By Marisa D'Vari | November 22nd, 2010 | Category: Burgundy, Jeanne-Marie De Champs, News, Pernard-Verglesses | No Comments »Pernard-Verglesses based producer M. Rapet is a energetic, compact man with dark hair and a curious resemblance to his forefathers whose ancient black and white photograph occupies a wall of the tasting room. This winery has been around since 1765 and a silver Tastvin from the period proudly displayed on the same wall. M. Rapet eagerly guides us through a tasting of his excellent wines, which begins with a barrel fermented Aligote 09 matured in 20% new French oak (pressed, no crushing).
Next is the Pernand-Verglesses “Les Combottes” 09, a white that is very fresh and crisp from a vineyard at the top of a hill - a real winner. Pernand-Verglesses 1er En Caradeaux is another good wine which receives daily battonage, while Sous Fretille from the has elements of butter, higher acidity, and well concentrated fruit.
The Premier Cru vineyards of Pernand-Vergelesses are divided into two sections; to the east of the village (white wines) and south-east, where an area for both red and white wines. Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne 09 has great structure, acidity, and a buttery characteristic while the Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagn 08 has more integration between fruit, oak, and alcohol and more minerality and can mature for 20 more years.
At the end of our visit, Mr. Rapat gives us a gorgeous illustrated map of his region, and we leave with the wonderful taste of his wines on our lips.
