Inniskillin Winery at Red Hot and Ice Gala
By Marisa D'Vari | January 15th, 2011 | Category: News | No Comments »Now last night was such a blast! After a fun day of tasting icewine at Inniskillin Winery in Niagra-on-the-Lake, the city was in full excitement to celebrate the Niagra Icewine Festival. A day of festivities (including the Guinness Book of World Records' press event) culminated in the Red Hot and Ice Gala at the Fallsview Casino Resort.
As promised, there was music and mingling ... and a surprising turnout of ultra-fashionable Canadian women in the kind of ultra-short dresses you really only see in Los Angeles (maybe) or more likely an episode of Entourage, the Hollywood-themed HBO series. Most of the guests seemed more like couples on a first (or second) date, yet the room was full of what appeared to be winemaking families, with parents and (adult-aged) children taking turns at the stands. Many women wore sparkles too -- something rarely seen in Manhattan, yet as one guest explained, "it's icewine night."
... and yes, we were all here to celebrate icewine from over 30 Ontario winemakers, incluiding Inniskillin winemaker Bruce Nicholson. The food looked gorgeous too ... lots of healthy things to eat (sushi) and delicious looking savory dishes that were fabulous. Yet one had to save for the dessert pavilion, which looked like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory with all types of mini-desserts artfully arranged in what could be called a candy cane house!
