Burgundy 2009 According to Frederick Wildman & Sons
By Marisa D'Vari | February 9th, 2011 | Category: News | No Comments »So it's something closely akin to "superbowl week" here in New York, now that producers and negotiants from Burgundy are here for events surrounding La Paulee.
Today Frederick Wildman & Sons had a tasting featuring many superstar producers. One of my first stops was at Domaine Meo-Camuzet, where Jeanne-Marie de Champs was pouring several fabulous wines, with my favorite being the 2009 Corton Perrieres with its intensity, complexity, and "bright cherries on dark, mineral rich earth" flavor snapshot.
I also met one of her other producers, Guillaume Lavollee from Chateau Genot Boulanger, who had some really fabulous wines as well. What struck me as especially interesting was that many of his whites were so packed with minerals they had almost a Riesling character in terms of pure stoniness. I especially liked the 2009 Mersault 1er Cru "Les Boucheres" which gets its name from the fact the vineyard was once a quary. Other delights were to be had at Maison Olivier LeFlaive and Domaine Faiveley.
Very excited to try the wines again when they are at the proper state of maturity!
