Fete de la Fleur 2011: Chateau Lascombes
By Marisa D'Vari | June 25th, 2011 | Category: News, Vinexpo | No Comments »"Does Robert Parker still have influence?" was the topic of conversation at “Fête de la Fleur,” held on the 23rd June at Château Lascombes in Margaux. It was a gorgeous evening, though a bit on the chilly side -- ladies in lovely long, strapless dresses during the three hour cocktail reception kept saying "tres froid!" about the chill. Yet most had tuxedo-clad men to keep them warm, as well as endless stations of foie gras, freshly shucked oysters, Sauternes, and dry red and white wine.
Founded in 1949, the Commanderie du Bontemps Médoc & Graves, Sauternes & Barsac, currently coordinated by
its Grand Maître, Emmanuel Cruse, chose Château Lascombes, a flagship of the Margaux appellation, as the venue for the Fête de la Fleur held on 23rd June this year, to conclude the 16th event of Vinexpo Bordeaux.
Now, with more than 1 500 meticulously selected guests, the Fête de la Fleur has become a keynote event for wine
lovers from all over the world who come together to share their passion for the fine wines of the Médoc and Graves,
Sauternes and Barsac during a prestigious soiree. Numerous Michelin-starred chefs, film stars, well-known musicians and international VIPs have already honoured this world-renowned festival with their presence. This year, Mr Alain Juppé, Foreign Secretary and Mayor of Bordeaux, was the guest of honour at this superb evening reception where many other prestigious guests were also present, such as His Excellency Mr Yasuo Saito, the Japanese Ambassador,
Mrs Philippine de Rothschild, Mrs Françoise Laborde and Mr Thomas Barrack, Chairman of Colony Capital, the group
which owns Château Lascombes. During its customary investiture ceremony, the Commanderie du Bontemps received 45 new Honorary Commandeurs who in turn will become representatives for the fine wines of Bordeaux’s Left Bank in their countries all over the
world.
Chef, Eric Frechon, who boasts three Michelin stars, expertly performed delicate, exquisite pairings with food and
wine: Aquitaine Caviar with an Haut Brion 2006; Bearn lamb with a Château Lascombes 2005; truffled Brie and
Léoville Poyferré 2000; and lastly, an explosion of flavours in a pineapple soufflé combining perfectly with a Château
d’Yquem 2008.
Jazz music, perfect harmony from opera singer Julie Mathevet and an astounding aerial acrobatic show by Maria
Belloir......Château Lascombes gave guests the very best entertainment to celebrate in fitting style its 10 years of
renewed success. Mr Thomas Barrack, Chairman and Founder of Colony Capital, had made a special trip from the
United States to attend this event and was keen present his thanks to the industry and world of wine.
Château Lascombes, Classified Second Growth of Margaux in 1855, is managed by Mr Dominique Befve and has been owned by the group Colony Capital since 2001.
