Day 2: Fine and Rare Wine Specialist Program

port66

We were promised a "week of fine and rare wine" and really experienced it today with this 1966 Port, 1971 Chateau d'Yquem, '82 Conterno Barolo .... and Anthony Hanson MW of Christies giving a tutored tasting of red and white Cru Burgundy as well as a talk on the auction process.

The day began at 9am with Mr. Hanson talking about the history of Burgundy, and then quickly moving on to the Mersault and Echezeux. He was followed by Gerard Basset MW giving a talk on how to pair with with food, and then a lunch in the elegant hotel dining room where we tried our own pairing of five wines with five dishes.

After lunch, we learned the ins and outs of buying wine at Auction from Mr. Hanson, and then a series of talks on sweet wines, and tasting of Tokaji, various Austrian sweet wines, and the Chateau d'Yquem.

A really fun group of people and a well executed program.
