"Hello Marisa!" says the very charming Jean Marie Bourgeois in the Sancerre supermarchet ... a surprise as Sancerre is a very small town and like a Manhattan nightclub, tout le vignorons visit this market on a Monday afternoon.
The previous day - a Sunday - Jean Marie was kind enough to escort me to his gorgeous winery, very chic and sophisticated in design.
My blackberry was not working so I will need to describe the very modern, sophisticated look of what appears to be a very expensive undertaking.
It is a place meant to have visitors -- many windows to see the terroir, places to relax, and indeed, Jean-Marie's very beautiful young grandchildren (possibly 4 - 7) were happily spending this Sunday running around this fabulous space.
After the winery Jean Marie took me to the cave ... very dark and ancient ... and then to the tasting room.
En route, we met a young Asian couple and he invited them to taste with us.
This winery is several generations old, and the wines are all intense, well structured, and quality. Jean Marie is an excellent ambassador for his wines, very charming, and very grateful to see one of Sancerre's oldest wineries.
