Union Des Grands Crus De Bordeaux Comes to Stormy New York City

Eric Larramona of Chateau Laufaurie-Peyraguey

The Union Des Grands Crus de Bordeaux came to NYC yesterday just as a storm descended on the city. The 2012 vintage was showing well … particularly the Merlot, though of course each Chateau is different. It was a great opportunity to see friends from Bordeaux, taste the new vintage, and also see the new generation (children of owners) coming up from the ranks.

Though the storm made it impossible to taste through everything, was very impressed with Eric’s Chateau Laufaurie-Peyraguey above — absolutely the perfect blend of acidity and ripe fruit – the balance could not possibly be better. Eric claimed it was due to very careful selection, possibly a 1/4 of their usual production.
