The Six Wines Tasted
The six wines tasted came from various points of Sicily.
They included:
Mandrarossa Bonera (red)
Red Sicilia DOC
100% Nero d’Avola
Timperosse (red)
IGT Red Terre Sicilia
100% Petit Verdot
Urra di Mare (white)
White Sicilia DOC
100% Sauvignon Blanc
Bartolino Soprano (white)
White Sicilia DOC
100% Grillo
Terre Del Sommaacco (red)
IGT Red Terre Sicilia
100% Nero d’Avola
Cartagho (red)
Red Sicilia DOC
100% Nero d’Avola
(aged for a year in barrique)
What I liked most about the wines is that their production was conducted in a way to showcase terroir.
Cartagho differed in that it had barrique aging.
I loved the two whites, yet had a slight preference for the Bartolino Soprano as I love Grillo – this was a fabulous expression of that grape.
Of the reds, all were excellent. The ultra-premium wine Cartagho could be served with a steak.
Yet for everyday, I liked the Bonera – perhaps chilled for summer.
